Tel Aviv police prosecutors filed a serious indictment and a request to keep a 39-year-old Sderot resident in custody until the end of proceedings after he allegedly tried to break into an apartment in south Tel Aviv and attacked a neighbor who confronted him.

The incident took place on June 5, 2026, on Tzalenov Street. Police said the suspect arrived with tools intended for the break-in and began forcing the apartment door with a screwdriver. A resident of the building noticed the suspicious activity, approached him and asked what he was doing.

According to the investigation, the suspect responded violently, pulled out a pair of scissors, and stabbed the neighbor in the upper body, causing injuries. Police said the attack could have ended far worse. The victim was trying to protect the apartment’s residents.

After an emergency call to 100, officers from the Sharet police station in the Ayalon area and fighters from the National Guard Central unit of the Border Police rushed to the scene, searched nearby streets, and found the suspect nearby as he tried to flee. He was arrested with the screwdriver and scissors on him, taken for questioning, and later held in custody because of the danger he posed.

In recent days he appeared several times before the court, which extended his detention at police request while investigators completed the case. This morning, after the investigation was completed and evidence was assembled, prosecutors charged him with aggravated wounding while armed and attempted residential burglary, and asked that he remain behind bars until the legal process ends.
