Sderot Man Charged After Attempted Tel Aviv Apartment Break-In and Stabbing of Neighbor
Police in Tel Aviv have indicted a 39-year-old man from Sderot after, according to the charges, he tried to break into an apartment in south Tel Aviv and stabbed a neighbor who confronted him. The indictment and a request to keep him in custody until the end of the proceedings were filed this morning by the Tel Aviv District Police Prosecution Unit.
The case dates to June 5, when police received a 100 emergency call reporting a man attempting to break into a residence on Tzelenov Street in Tel Aviv. Officers from the Sharet police station in the Ayalon area, together with National Guard fighters from the Israel Police Border Guard's Central District, arrived and began searching the area and collecting evidence.
According to the indictment, the suspect tried to force open the apartment door with a screwdriver. A neighbor who saw what was happening asked him what he was doing, and was attacked, allegedly stabbed in the upper body with scissors. Police say the tools found on the suspect when he was arrested, a screwdriver and scissors, were used in the incident.
He was taken for questioning at the Sharet station and later held in custody, with his detention extended repeatedly by the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court. After the investigation was completed, prosecutors filed charges of injuring a person while armed and attempted burglary of a dwelling, along with the request for detention until legal proceedings conclude.
