Social Activist Shir'al Chugag Joins Gadi Eizenkot's Yisrael Party to Lead Government Efficiency Drive

Shir'al Chugag, a businessman and social activist from Ofakim, has joined the Yisrael party led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot. Chugag will spearhead the party's initiative to improve government efficiency and service delivery to Israeli citizens. With extensive experience managing large Israeli and international companies, including serving as CEO of the AM:PM chain, Chugag brings managerial expertise to the political arena.

Chugag became a prominent public voice following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, during which his sister and her family were severely injured but escaped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Motivated by this personal tragedy and the national crisis, he has advocated for responsibility, reform, and the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the events of October 7. He emphasizes that uncovering the truth and accountability are essential for national recovery and preventing future disasters.

Gadi Eizenkot praised Chugag as a symbol of citizens who took responsibility after October 7 and called him a clear voice demanding a state inquiry. Eizenkot stressed the need to restore professionalism and excellence in government, which he says has been eroded by political appointments and weakened oversight. Chugag echoed this, stating that the government must prioritize citizens and transform decisions into effective actions, presenting a forthcoming plan to bring Israeli innovation and efficiency into government ministries.

Chugag joins a roster of senior figures who have recently affiliated with Yisrael, including former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, economist Shaul Meridor, former ministers Matan Kahana and Orit Farkash-Hacohen, and other prominent social and political leaders. The party aims to rebuild public trust by enhancing government performance and accountability in the wake of the October 7 tragedy.
