Disney+ Launches New App in Israel, Ending Hotstar-Based Service by October 2026

Disney+ is set to replace its current app in Israel with a new version launching on September 9, 2026. Starting August 6, Disney began notifying Israeli subscribers about the upcoming transition and will provide further instructions closer to the launch date. Until now, Disney+ in Israel operated on a separate app based on Hotstar, a Disney subsidiary, which differed from the app used in other countries. This caused limitations, especially for Israelis traveling abroad, where the Hotstar-based app was often unsupported.

The new app will allow users to watch Disney+ content while traveling internationally, although content availability may vary by country. Subscribers will need to take action to switch apps, including downloading the new app and logging in with their existing accounts. However, viewing history will not transfer to the new app, and the login process may change from phone number-based authentication to requiring an email and password.

Additional features in the new app include an improved recommendation system tailored to viewing habits, a refreshed ESPN viewing experience, and updated parental controls featuring a dedicated "Toddlers Zone." Account sharing policies remain uncertain; while Disney has implemented household restrictions in other regions, it is unclear if or how these will apply in Israel.

Both the old and new apps will operate simultaneously for a transition period, with the current app remaining available on most devices until October 12, 2026, after which it will be discontinued. Disney has confirmed that subscription prices and available movies and series will remain unchanged. The most significant impact for Israeli users will be the improved app experience and enhanced usability during international travel.
