Disney Plus Upgrades Israeli App with New Features and Global Access by September 2026

Disney Plus announced that its app for Israeli users will be upgraded on September 9, 2026, replacing the current Indian-based Hotstar app. The new global app will maintain the existing content and subscription price of 50 shekels per month. The initial launch of Disney Plus in Israel used the Hotstar app, which offered fewer features and disappointed many users expecting the full global experience.

The upgrade will bring significant improvements, including the ability to watch content while traveling abroad, a feature previously unavailable as the app was blocked outside Israel. However, content availability may vary by location. New parental controls will introduce a dedicated "toddler zone" and enhanced smart recommendations that improve as users watch more content.

Users should note that their viewing history will be reset before the upgrade, and they will need to download the new app, log in with existing account details, and set up profiles. The current app will remain accessible on most devices until October 12, 2026, but no new content will be added after the upgrade date. Both TV and mobile app versions must be updated.

The transition to the global app will also implement anti-password-sharing measures similar to those used by Netflix, although specific details have not been disclosed. Additionally, login will shift from phone number authentication to email and password. Disney Plus continues to offer extensive content from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Hulu to Israeli subscribers.
