Dedi Simhi Considers Leaving Gantz for Reserved Likud Seat Amid Political Uncertainty

Dedi Simhi, former Fire Commissioner and bereaved father, who allied with Benny Gantz as his number two ahead of the upcoming elections, is contemplating leaving the partnership if offered a reserved spot in the Likud party. This consideration comes as Gantz's political standing remains weak in the polls, failing to surpass the electoral threshold and struggling to form alliances with other parties.

Simhi has communicated to Gantz his intent to enter politics regardless of the path, even if it means departing from the Blue and White alliance. About a month ago, Simhi expressed optimism about uniting with Gantz and other centrist parties, aiming to build a broad Israeli bloc that transcends traditional political divides. He mentioned potential collaborations with figures like Yoaz Hendel, though these were not finalized.

In subsequent interviews, Simhi criticized narrow coalition governments, warning that a slim majority from either side could lead to disaster. He emphasized his goal to form a significant political force capable of bridging divides rather than aligning strictly with one bloc. Meanwhile, talks with Hendel have failed, with Hendel expected to run alongside Trooper instead. Simhi remains committed to establishing a new political entity with Gantz to unify different political factions.
