Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan Form Defense Pact Impacting Israel Amid Regional Tensions

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed a historic tripartite defense agreement in Mecca over the weekend, marking a significant development in the Muslim world with broad implications for the Middle East and Israel. The pact commits the three countries to mutual defense, stating that an armed attack on one will be considered an attack on all. The agreement also responds to Saudi Arabia's need to bolster its defenses following intensified Iranian attacks during recent conflicts. The pact is expected to enhance Saudi Arabia's ability to counter the Houthi siege in the Red Sea, with anticipated support from Turkey and Pakistan. While the alliance may be more declarative than operational, it strengthens Turkey's regional influence amid escalating tensions with Israel, including recent maritime confrontations.

Turkey's Vice President stated the pact is not directed against any specific country, but analysts warn that Turkey's growing political and military stature, reinforced by this alliance, poses a strategic challenge to Israel.
