Man Charged for Throwing Stone at News 12 Entrance and Threatening Media

Abraham Hadi is set to face indictment for damaging property and extorting threats against several Israeli media outlets and the Ministry of Justice. The charges stem from multiple incidents in July 2026, including throwing a stone that shattered the entrance door of News 12's offices in Tel Aviv on July 28. At the scene, Hadi left a threatening note stating, "Next time the stone will be aimed at one of your heads" and "Eventually someone will die."

Following these events, the Shin Bet joined the investigation alongside the Tel Aviv Central Crime Unit. Authorities tracked Hadi, a man in his 40s from Ramat Gan, using technological and covert methods. He was arrested on July 30, and a search of his home uncovered clothing and other evidence linking him to the offenses. Hadi has a prior record including graffiti vandalism near Channel 13 offices and an ongoing case involving an alleged assault at a law firm in Bnei Brak.

The incidents prompted widespread condemnation across the political spectrum. President Isaac Herzog spoke with Police Commissioner Danni Levi, emphasizing zero tolerance for violence aimed at silencing voices in Israeli society and underscoring the importance of protecting free and independent journalism. Commissioner Levi announced urgent measures to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure public safety.

News 12 warned that attacks on journalists threaten press freedom and called on the government and Communications Minister to cease incitement against the free media. The Journalists' Association highlighted the serious deterioration in attitudes toward the press, noting that targeting journalists as enemies fosters violence and undermines the public's right to reliable information.
