Israeli Agriculture Ministry Rescues Two Severely Neglected Horses in Kiryat Ata

Two horses were rescued from severe neglect in Kiryat Ata, northern Israel, after being found extremely thin, injured, and without access to food. The animals were kept in dirty, confined stalls with minimal water and no available food. One stall door was completely stuck and padded, indicating the horse had been confined there for an extended period.

The rescue operation was conducted by inspectors from the Northern District Enforcement and Investigation Unit of the Agriculture Ministry, alongside veterinary inspectors from Western Galilee, the municipal veterinarian of Kiryat Ata, and Israeli police officers. Over the past two months, several inspections had been carried out at the site, with detailed lists of violations and demands for correction issued to the owner. However, follow-up inspections revealed no improvements, prompting the rescue.

Following their removal, the horses were transferred to a protected facility where they are receiving veterinary care, tailored nutrition, and physical and psychological rehabilitation. The Agriculture Ministry is considering opening a criminal investigation against the owner on suspicion of violating animal welfare laws. Moshe Achrak, head of the Enforcement and Investigation Unit, emphasized the ministry's commitment to preventing animal suffering and prosecuting offenders.
