Israeli Police Charge Man for Vandalizing Media Outlets and Justice Ministry

Israeli police have concluded their investigation into a series of vandalism and threats targeting major media organizations and the Ministry of Justice. The suspect, Avi Hadi, a man in his 40s from Ramat Gan, is accused of causing damage in five incidents involving property destruction and extortion by threats. In July, reports emerged of damage to entrances of buildings housing News 12, Haaretz, Israel Hayom, and the Ministry of Justice, with bricks reportedly thrown at doors to intimidate media outlets and influence their coverage.

In addition to property damage, Hadi allegedly left a threatening letter at the entrance of News 12 on the night of July 28. Police investigators from the National Fraud Unit identified Hadi through technological surveillance and covert operations. He was arrested on July 30, and a search of his home uncovered clothing and other evidence linking him to the crimes. His detention has been extended multiple times, and prosecutors have filed an indictment declaration against him, with a formal indictment expected soon.

The Israeli Police emphasized their firm stance against attempts to harm state institutions and media organizations, highlighting the importance of press freedom as a cornerstone of democracy. They pledged to act decisively against anyone using violence, bullying, or intimidation to silence free expression.
