Israeli Man Charged for Vandalizing Media Offices and Threatening Journalists in Ramat Gan

The Israeli police filed an indictment statement on Sunday against Avraham Hadi, a man in his 40s from Ramat Gan, ahead of formal charges for his involvement in five incidents of property damage and extortion threats targeting several media outlets and the Ministry of Justice. Hadi was arrested about ten days ago on suspicion of smashing the entrance doors of News 12, Haaretz newspaper, Israel Hayom newspaper, and the Ministry of Justice building using bricks. Authorities believe these acts were intended to intimidate and threaten the media organizations regarding their coverage.

In addition to the property damage, Hadi allegedly left a threatening letter addressed to journalists and public figures at the entrance of the News 12 building near the site of the brick-throwing on July 28. Following his arrest, police searched his home and seized clothing and other evidence linking him to the crimes. His detention has been extended multiple times, and the prosecution is expected to file formal charges against him in the coming days.

The Israeli police emphasized the seriousness of attempts to harm state institutions and media bodies, particularly those aimed at intimidating journalists to disrupt their work. They reaffirmed their commitment to vigorously combat violence, bullying, or intimidation used to silence freedom of expression, underscoring that press freedom is a cornerstone of democracy.
