Israeli Man Arrested for Vandalizing Media Offices and Threatening Journalists in Ramat Gan

A man in his 40s from Ramat Gan was arrested at the end of July on suspicion of throwing bricks at the offices of several major Israeli media outlets, including Channel 12, Haaretz, and Israel Hayom, as well as the Ministry of Justice building. The attacks, which occurred throughout July, involved damaging entrance doors with bricks and were reportedly intended to intimidate and threaten the media organizations regarding their coverage.

In addition to the property damage, the suspect left a threatening letter at the entrance of Channel 12 on the night of July 28. The glass door at Channel 12 was shattered by a masked individual, prompting the media outlet to blame political leadership for the attack. Following a complex investigation by the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District Police, which included covert operations and technological tracking, the suspect was identified and arrested on July 30. A search of his home yielded clothing and other evidence linking him to the offenses.

The suspect remains in custody, and a prosecutorial declaration has been filed against him. The prosecution is expected to submit a serious indictment in the coming days. The Israeli Police emphasized their zero-tolerance stance on attempts to harm state institutions and media bodies, particularly those aimed at intimidating journalists to disrupt their work. They stated, "Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy, and the Israel Police will act firmly and decisively against anyone who uses violence, bullying, or intimidation to silence free expression."

This incident comes amid heightened tensions, with recent reports of arrests related to incitement on social media and vandalism at Galei Tzahal studios involving hate graffiti. Channel 12 has previously been targeted, including recent graffiti threats against its staff.
