Israeli Police Update Speed Camera Enforcement Thresholds to Enhance Road Safety

The Traffic Department of the Israeli Police is set to implement new enforcement thresholds for speed cameras across the country in the coming days. Each speed camera, known as A-3 cameras, was evaluated based on road characteristics, traffic volumes, accident data, casualty numbers, and risk levels for each segment. Following this review, Traffic Department Chief Commissioner Chaim Shmueli decided to adjust the enforcement thresholds to better reflect professional analysis and actual road conditions.

The police explained that the goal is to focus enforcement on areas with increased danger to road users. Drivers exceeding the speed limit will be recorded by the cameras, and fines will be sent directly to them. Authorities emphasized that the initiative aims not to issue more tickets but to save lives, deter speeding, and reduce fatalities and injuries in traffic accidents.

The Traffic Department highlighted that excessive speed or speed inappropriate for road conditions remains a leading cause of fatal accidents and worsens injury severity. Even small speed violations increase braking distance, reduce reaction time, and raise the risk of deadly outcomes. Police urge drivers to prepare for the changes, act responsibly, and adhere to posted speed limits on all roads.
