Iran Sets Demands Including US Compensation Before Reopening Strait of Hormuz

Senior Iranian officials have indicated that negotiations with Moscow regarding the management and reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz are nearing conclusion. However, Tehran insists that several additional conditions must be met before the strait can be fully reopened. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the reopening depends on receiving compensation from the United States for war damages and breaches of agreements. Meanwhile, Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, outlined further demands including the release of frozen Iranian assets, cessation of military actions against Iran and its proxies in the region, and lifting the maritime blockade.

In parallel, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces have redirected 53 commercial vessels, disabled two ships, and boarded two others as of the previous day. Over 30 ships carrying humanitarian aid were allowed to pass. US President Donald Trump recently expressed optimism that the conflict with Iran would conclude soon and revealed his personal involvement in talks with Tehran. Nonetheless, Iran's extensive demands cast doubt on the possibility of reaching a comprehensive agreement in the near future.
