Erdogan Seeks to Rescue Saudi Arabia with New Defense Pact Amid Regional Struggles

Former Israeli National Security Advisor Yaakov Nagel commented on the emerging defense agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan during a 103FM interview on August 7, 2026. He described Saudi Arabia as a "paper tiger," highlighting its internal struggles despite possessing advanced military assets. Nagel pointed out Saudi Arabia's failure in its conflict against the Houthi rebels, attributing this to ineffective use of sophisticated equipment and a lack of liquidity that has left the kingdom economically vulnerable.

Nagel explained that Saudi Arabia is seeking alternatives due to its severe monetary and security challenges. He noted the kingdom's recent surprising diplomatic move to sign an agreement with Iran, driven by fears of Iranian threats and its militias in the Middle East.
