The new MG4 "Urban" electric vehicle is positioned as a well-rounded family car priced at 120,000 shekels, offering a spacious interior for five adults, a large 568-liter trunk, decent equipment, and a quality chassis. It features a single 160-horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels, a lightweight body of 1.52 tons, and a 54 kWh battery providing a declared range of up to 405 km, with real-world tests showing about 320 km under hot conditions and continuous air conditioning use.
The MG4 Urban is a completely new generation of the MG4 model, launched last year in China, with a redesigned softer exterior aimed at conservative European tastes. Inside, it boasts a high seating position, generous headroom, a flat rear seat for three adults, and a modern digital cockpit with a 12.8-inch multimedia screen and physical control switches. The car includes features such as an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats, wireless charging, and surround cameras, though it lacks a sunroof and electric passenger seat adjustment.
Driving dynamics benefit from a European-tuned chassis, providing good steering feedback, moderate body roll, and stable high-speed handling. The car’s charging capability supports up to 150 kW fast charging, a notable advantage in its price segment. However, the limited range and absence of crossover styling may reduce appeal for some buyers seeking status or extensive travel.
The timing of MG4 Urban’s launch coincides with Israel’s Ministry of Energy subsidizing hydrogen-powered trucks and a pending Finance Ministry committee reviewing green vehicle tax incentives. The committee aims to remove subsidies for electric vehicles, arguing their prices have become competitive with gasoline cars, which could impact the MG4’s market attractiveness.
Overall, the MG4 Urban offers a compelling value proposition with a seven-year warranty, setting a new benchmark for affordability and utility in Israel’s electric vehicle market, at least until more aggressive Chinese competitors arrive.
