MG4 Urban Electric Family Car Launches in Israel at 120,000 Shekels
The MG4 Urban, an electric family car priced at 120,000 shekels, has recently launched in Israel, offering a competitive option in the affordable electric vehicle market. This model is notably cheaper than many hybrids and compact cars, including the Toyota Yaris hybrid and MG's own MG3, while providing more space and equipment. Unlike the regular MG4, which has rear-wheel drive and a longer range, the Urban version features front-wheel drive and a shorter official range of 405 kilometers, with real-world tests showing about 360 kilometers under mixed driving conditions.
Measuring 4.395 meters in length and with a spacious interior, the MG4 Urban offers a comfortable rear seat and a large 568-liter trunk, though the cargo space is split between an upper compartment and a lower storage well. The vehicle includes a single trim level with rich features such as a 12.8-inch multimedia screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, heated seats and steering wheel, 360-degree cameras, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power supply capability.
Safety is a strong point, with the MG4 Urban earning a five-star rating in European crash tests and equipped with advanced driver assistance systems including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, and child presence alerts. The electric motor delivers 160 horsepower and 25.5 kg-m of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h. While performance is adequate, it lacks the instant torque punch typical of many electric vehicles.
Charging capabilities include a 54 kWh battery with a maximum fast charging rate of 87 kW and 11 kW AC charging for home or public stations. The MG4 Urban offers significant cost savings on fuel compared to gasoline and hybrid vehicles, especially when charged at home. The car’s ride quality is comfortable though not exceptionally quiet over rough roads, and its handling is safe but less sporty than MG’s earlier British sports car heritage.
Overall, the MG4 Urban presents excellent value for money with a spacious, well-equipped package and low running costs. It addresses the previous lack of truly affordable electric family cars in Israel and could help increase electric vehicle market share, which had declined due to infrastructure and model availability issues. The vehicle comes with a 7-year/150,000 km warranty for the car and an 8-year/150,000 km warranty for the battery. Other affordable electric models like the Lipmotor B05 and BYD Dolphin G are also entering the market, but the MG4 Urban stands out as a particularly attractive deal.
