Two Cases of Eye Infection Linked to Parasite in Sea of Galilee Reported by Health Ministry
The Israeli Ministry of Health reported two cases of corneal inflammation caused by a parasite called Microsporidium found in the waters of the Sea of Galilee. Both patients had bathed in the lake in late June and early July. This parasite can cause eye infections and potentially impair vision. The ministry emphasized that drinking the water from the Sea of Galilee is safe and swimming is allowed. However, individuals who develop symptoms such as eye redness, pain, or a sensation of a foreign body in the eye after swimming should promptly consult an ophthalmologist. Symptoms typically appear between one and three weeks after exposure.
