Chef Einav Azguri Launches Home-Style Kitchen Pranzo in Tel Aviv
Pranzo is a new culinary deli on Basel Street in Tel Aviv, founded by chefs Hazi Nahum, Omri Sibul, and Maiki Cohen, who enlisted renowned chef Einav Azguri to create a fresh alternative to urban dining habits. Azguri, known for his work at popular local venues like Serviseria and Bar A Vin, has shifted focus from trendy restaurant kitchens to cooking home-style dishes inspired by various ethnic traditions, emphasizing comfort and everyday meals. The menu features eight main dishes priced between 44 and 84 shekels, with a daily lunch special allowing customers to choose a protein and two sides, and a 30% discount on fresh food sold by weight every evening from 7:00 to 7:30 pm.
Azguri, 49, originally from Kibbutz Hukok, has a rich culinary background including training in France and leadership roles in several Tel Aviv restaurants. After the closure of LP in October 2025 and a personal life change, he took time to refocus and decided to open Pranzo, where he cooks without ego, prioritizing nourishing, authentic food over Instagram trends. Signature dishes include a healthier air-fried schnitzel, layered lasagna, velvety moussaka, and a Turkish-inspired rice pudding dessert called sutlach with a French technique twist.
Pranzo exemplifies a growing trend in Tel Aviv's food scene where the lines between restaurant, deli, and home kitchen blur. This new wave of "restaurant-deli" concepts offers daily cooked meals sold by weight or as part of a set meal, combining professionalism with the convenience of home dining. Other notable examples of this trend include Telu, Tena, Lufa, and Ila, which similarly focus on quality, seasonal ingredients and accessible, prepared foods for busy urban lifestyles.
