Security Guard Detained for Assaulting Fan with Baton During Toto Cup Match

A 27-year-old security guard from Abu Ghosh was arrested and had his detention extended by four days after allegedly striking a Hapoel Petah Tikva fan with a baton during a violent brawl at a Toto Cup match against Maccabi Netanya. The incident occurred during halftime when a confrontation broke out between fans and civilian security personnel along the pitch. The guard reportedly hit the fan in the head, causing serious injury, then fled the stadium and avoided contact with authorities and his supervisor. He was located and arrested at his home the following morning by Petah Tikva police.

During the investigation, the guard admitted involvement but denied using the baton, later claiming he acted in self-defense. His lawyer argued selective enforcement and noted that her client also sustained injuries to his back and face. The court extended his detention until August 9, citing the guard's flight from the scene as grounds for continued custody despite difficulties proving obstruction of justice.

The altercation happened while players and referees were in the locker rooms. After the event manager failed to control the situation, police took over, restored order, and the match resumed. One person was lightly injured and treated. The investigation remains ongoing.
