Central Election Committee Orders Gadi Eizenkot to Remove AI-Generated IDF Campaign Video

The Central Election Committee chairman has ruled that Gadi Eizenkot must remove a campaign video featuring AI-generated images of IDF soldiers, following a petition by the Likud party. The video, posted on Eizenkot's social media accounts, showed him walking against backgrounds including scenes of soldiers engaged in combat, military activities, and a military ceremony. The soldiers depicted were created using artificial intelligence.

Likud argued that the video unlawfully used public assets for election propaganda, violating Section 2A of the 1959 Elections Law concerning campaign methods. The committee chairman agreed, stating that although the video was published before a new directive banning the use of the IDF in election campaigns took effect, the existing law prohibiting the use of public assets still applied.

The decision emphasized that the use of military uniforms and soldier figures, considered intangible public assets, was a significant element of the campaign message, creating an association between Eizenkot and the IDF. This constituted an illegal use of public assets for election purposes. Consequently, Eizenkot was ordered to remove the video from all his social media platforms.
