Israeli Hyperpop Artist Nono Releases Long-Delayed Second Album "The Shelved"

Israeli hyperpop singer Nono, born Naomi Aharoni-Gal, has released her long-shelved second album titled "The Shelved" nearly four years after writing it. The album was originally created in 2022 during a writing trip to Greece with her producer Ilai Ashdot, following the success of her debut album "Status" and hit single "Cute Boy." However, the outbreak of the prolonged war in Israel led Nono to shelve the album, as its themes of trivial personal issues felt out of place amid the national crisis.

Instead, Nono released a different album last year called "What Else," which reflected the emotional extremes of life in Israel, ranging from joy to melancholy. Now, feeling hopeful, she has decided to share "The Shelved," a collection of ten short hyperpop tracks reminiscent of her early style. Nono explained that during the original writing period she was physically and emotionally exhausted, struggling to find her new voice after a turbulent breakthrough year.

She said the shelved album allowed her to explore broader themes beyond heartbreak, but the war made it impossible to release at the time. Today, she feels there is room again for songs about everyday, seemingly trivial matters, and for listeners to dance and embrace normal human experiences. The album offers a different sound and lyrical approach, filled with glittering beats designed for summer enjoyment.

Nono’s release marks a return to her roots with a fresh perspective, highlighting resilience and hope amid challenging times in Israel.
