Israeli Singer Nuno Shelves Album After October 7 Attack, Releases New Single Reflecting Changed Reality
Israeli singer and songwriter Nuno discussed in a June 2024 interview on Kan 11's "Midday" program her difficult decision to shelve a completed album following the October 7 terror attack. She explained that the material she had worked on throughout 2023 no longer resonated with the new Israeli reality. During a meeting with producer Eili Ashdot and artistic director Adam Gabay, they realized the music felt disconnected and inappropriate to release at this time, leading to the album's shelving.
Nuno described the personal and financial challenges of abandoning a finished album, noting the extensive work on lyrics, production, and the significant investment involved. She emphasized that the trauma of the attack changed her inner world and that of the entire country, making it impossible to continue with the original project. Instead, she recently released a new single titled "Bo" (Come), which she feels captures a more authentic and hopeful spirit emerging this summer.
The single was written in Greece near the release of her previous song "Cute Boy" and reflects a world that has since transformed. Nuno is currently gauging public reaction to "Bo" and considering whether to eventually release the shelved album. She is also preparing for a celebratory concert marking five years of her career, scheduled for August 22 at the Barby Club in Tel Aviv, promising surprises and a fresh show.
The interview highlighted Nuno's artistic evolution in response to national trauma and her cautious optimism about reconnecting with audiences through new music.
