Israeli Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz Commits to Southampton, Aims for Premier League Return

Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has embarked on a new chapter in his career as the first-choice keeper for Southampton following his transfer from Bayern Munich. Peretz, 26, joined Southampton on loan in January 2024 and quickly became a key player, helping the club avoid relegation and reach the Championship promotion playoffs. Despite the disappointment of last season’s unresolved campaign, Peretz expressed strong determination to lead Southampton back to the Premier League, stating, "We are very hungry, ready for the new season, and giving it our all. For us, this is unfinished business."

Southampton advanced past Middlesbrough in the playoff semifinals but were unable to compete in the final at Wembley due to a spying scandal, which allowed rival club Hull City to be promoted instead. Following his impressive performances, Southampton secured Peretz’s transfer from Bayern Munich for eight million euros, signing him to a long-term contract through 2030.

Peretz explained his decision to stay in England by saying, "I feel at home here. When you feel at home, you have to stay. I am sure this is the right decision. My heart is here." Reflecting on his two years at Bayern Munich, Peretz described the experience as personally formative despite not becoming the club’s main goalkeeper. He highlighted the privilege of working alongside legendary keeper Manuel Neuer, who inspired him and provided valuable guidance both professionally and personally.

Peretz originally joined Bayern Munich from Maccabi Tel Aviv in summer 2023 with high expectations but faced challenges securing a starting role. Nevertheless, he views his time in Germany as a mental strengthening experience that prepared him for his current role at Southampton.
