Daniel Peretz Commits to Southampton After Breakthrough Season, Eyes Redemption

Israeli national team goalkeeper Daniel Peretz is preparing for the new Championship season as Southampton's first-choice keeper after a successful loan spell from Bayern Munich. Peretz secured a long-term contract with Southampton until 2030 following his impressive performances in the latter half of last season. In an interview with Spox, Peretz reflected on his time alongside Bayern legend Manuel Neuer and discussed the dramatic end to Southampton's previous campaign, which saw the club barred from the playoff final due to a spying scandal involving their coach, Tonda Akert.

Peretz described the previous season's conclusion as "bitter" but emphasized that the team is motivated and ready to seek sporting redemption. He expressed confidence in his decision to leave Bayern Munich, where he was primarily a backup to Neuer, stating, "I feel at home here. When you feel at home, you need to stay. I'm sure this is the right decision. My heart is here."

Peretz was signed by Bayern Munich from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2023 for 5 million euros but made only seven official appearances. He praised Neuer as a major influence on his career, highlighting the guidance and support he received from the German goalkeeper. Peretz also recounted a challenging stint at Hamburg in 2025, where he lost his starting spot, but said the experience strengthened him mentally.

Southampton will kick off their official season on the upcoming Saturday with a League Cup match against Colchester United, followed by their Championship promotion campaign starting with an away game at Watford. Peretz and Southampton aim to correct last season's disappointments and push for promotion to the Premier League.
