Southampton Secures Israeli Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz at a Bargain Price

After a challenging period, Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has found his footing at Southampton. Previously overlooked at Bayern Munich and Hamburg, Peretz joined Southampton in January and quickly became a key player, helping the team reach the English FA Cup semi-finals. Despite missing the Wembley Premier League playoff due to a spying scandal, his impact has been significant.

Southampton paid £7 million for Peretz, a fee considered a bargain compared to other English clubs' spending on goalkeepers. For example, Brighton paid £30 million for Carl Rushworth, the Championship's goalkeeper of the year. Peretz boasts impressive stats, including a 77.1% save rate and 64% pass accuracy, notable in a league that favors long balls.

Peretz brings valuable experience from the Bundesliga, Champions League, and international play. While his legacy at Southampton will be defined in the upcoming season, he is already seen as one of the best transfer window acquisitions. His status as first-choice goalkeeper was solidified when he changed his squad number from 41 to 1.

Southampton's goalkeeper roster also includes Aaron Ramsdale, currently on loan to Newcastle, and Gavin Bazunu, loaned to Stoke. Newcastle declined a €25 million purchase option for Ramsdale, who is expected to seek a new club as he is unlikely to play in the Championship.
