Deputy Mayor in Central Israel Arrested for Sexual Harassment Amid Ongoing Investigation

A joint investigation by the Bat Yam Municipality and the Israel Police has led to the arrest of a serving deputy mayor from a city in the central Israeli region known as the Shfela, on suspicion of sexual harassment. The probe, dubbed "Operation Chametz Eradication," began following a complaint filed by a municipal employee.

The investigation was initially conducted covertly, during which police gathered evidence against the suspect. This morning, the inquiry became public with the deputy mayor's arrest by the Central District Fraud Unit. Authorities described the incident as systematic and degrading, and they are examining whether there are additional complainants.

The suspect is currently under interrogation by the Central District Fraud Unit. Police plan to request an extension of his detention from the Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion later today. Investigators also intend to seek court approval to publish the suspect's name to encourage other potential victims to come forward.
