24-Year-Old Suspected of Smuggling Illegal Immigrants into Israel and Running Them Over, Killing One
Israeli police located a 24-year-old suspect in Beersheba who allegedly smuggled three illegal immigrants into Israel and then ran them over, resulting in the death of one individual. Authorities found the suspect's vehicle parked under a water carrier near the seam line, raising suspicion. Upon investigation, the vehicle was linked to a resident of Dura in the Hebron district, wanted for involvement in a previous murder and serious injuries to illegal immigrants.
The two surviving victims reported that the suspect transported them across the border into Israeli territory. After they exited the vehicle, the suspect reportedly drove off briefly, then reversed the vehicle at high speed toward them, striking three people severely before fleeing without providing assistance. One victim was critically injured and later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The other two were treated and interrogated at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where they received care consistent with Israeli policy toward illegal immigrants.
The investigation materials were forwarded to the Southern District Prosecutor's Office, which filed an indictment intent against the suspect for manslaughter and illegal presence in Israel. The prosecutor also requested his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. This case highlights ongoing issues related to illegal immigration and associated criminal acts in southern Israel.
