Avi Nesher’s Film 'Our Loves' Selected for Toronto Film Festival Centrepiece Program

Israeli director Avi Nesher’s latest film, "Our Loves," has been accepted into the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and will be screened in the Centrepiece section, which highlights outstanding global works. The film, Nesher’s 21st, draws inspiration from real events and follows seven interconnected characters whose lives are altered by the events of October 7, forcing them to confront relationships, memories, and new insights. TIFF, held annually in September, is recognized as one of the world’s leading film festivals and a key platform for launching the American awards season.

"Our Loves" recently received 12 Ophir Award nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, and Original Music. The film has also attracted international industry attention, with FOX Entertainment Studios and Access Entertainment joining as co-producers, marking a significant achievement for a Hebrew-language Israeli film amid challenges faced by Israeli cinema globally.

Avi Nesher’s previous film screenings at TIFF have faced protests and cancellations, such as the 2023 screening of "The Way Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue," which was initially canceled but later shown after public pressure and won the Audience Award. In 2024, pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the premiere of the Israeli film "Hemedah" at TIFF.

Emilio Shenkar, CEO of SIPUR, praised "Our Loves" as a major opportunity for Israel to present the human story of October 7 to the world, noting the film’s power to overcome boycotts against Israeli cinema. Liron Edri, marketing and distribution manager at United King Films, emphasized the film’s message of healing and change following the tragic events depicted.

The cast includes Shalom Michaelshvili, Magi Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Noa Cohen, Hadas Yaron, Evelyn Hagoel, Lena Freifeld, Sean Mongoose, Kim Or Azulai, Lev Leib Levin, Naomi Aharoni Gal (Nono), Lior Miller, Elad Turgeman, Amir Banai, Nevo Katan, Itamar Pinto, and Daniel Gimpel.
