Avi Nesher’s New Film 'Our Loves' Selected for Toronto International Film Festival
Avi Nesher’s latest film, "Our Loves," has been officially selected for screening at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. The film, Nesher’s 21st, is based on true events and follows seven intertwined characters whose lives are profoundly affected by the events of October 7, compelling them to confront new insights about love, loss, and survival. The cast includes notable Israeli actors such as Shalom Michaelshvili, Magi Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Hadas Yaron, Evelyn Hagoel, Noa Cohen, Kim Or Azoulay, and Lena Freifeld. "Our Loves" will be featured in TIFF’s Centrepiece program, which highlights outstanding international works.
This selection comes shortly after the film received 12 Ophir Award nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. Liron Edri, marketing and distribution manager at United King Films, expressed optimism about the film’s international reception, noting that the inclusion of Israeli cinema in major festivals is a sign of breaking down cultural boycotts. She emphasized that "Our Loves" not only tells a deeply Israeli story about a tragic day but also conveys themes of healing, change, and resilience. Edri expressed confidence that the film will resonate with global audiences, underscoring cinema’s power to transcend borders, languages, and prejudices.
The Toronto International Film Festival is recognized as a key launchpad for the American awards season and a significant step toward the Oscars race. Nesher’s film’s presence at TIFF marks an important milestone for Israeli cinema on the world stage.
