Shin Bet and Border Police Arrest Jerusalem Suspect Planning Terror Attack

On Monday night, Israeli Border Police special forces in Jerusalem, guided by the Shin Bet and accompanied by Jerusalem District Police officers, arrested a suspect accused of planning a terror attack. The suspect, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem, is suspected of promoting terrorist activities and plotting an attack. Security forces raided his home, forcibly entered the building, located, and detained him. Following the arrest, a search of the residence was conducted, and the suspect was transferred to the Shin Bet for further investigation.

This arrest comes about two weeks after Border Police officers fatally shot Khalil al-Rashaq, a sanitation worker for the Jerusalem Municipality, at the Shuafat checkpoint. Al-Rashaq, who suffered from schizophrenia after being attacked by Jewish youths seven months earlier, was unarmed at the time of the shooting. Medical teams confirmed his death due to blood loss. The Police Investigations Department opened a probe, collecting testimonies from officers and reviewing footage from checkpoint cameras. The investigation supported the officers' account that al-Rashaq's behavior raised suspicion and that they acted according to arrest procedures. Consequently, the case is expected to be closed.
