Police Raid in Ashkelon Uncovers Illegal Gambling Den Linked to Crime Boss

Israeli police uncovered an illegal gambling operation in Ashkelon during a targeted raid conducted by detectives from the Ashkelon station and Border Police fighters from the southern unit. The raid followed intelligence indicating the existence of an unlawful gambling venue in the city. Upon entering the premises, officers found several suspects allegedly participating in gambling activities.

During the search, authorities seized a computer used for bingo games, bingo cards, cash, coins, checks, and other equipment believed to be used in running the illegal gambling house. Four individuals were detained for questioning, including the operator of the venue and a person who occupied the premises. The investigation is ongoing to establish the involvement of a senior figure in the southern Israeli criminal underworld, who police suspect is behind the gambling operation but was not present during the raid and thus not arrested.

Deputy Commander of the Ashkelon Police Station, Chief Inspector Doron Sasson, emphasized the station's firm and consistent efforts to combat illegal gambling, which he described as a fertile ground for criminal activity and a threat to public order. He stated that the police will continue proactive and focused operations to identify and dismantle illegal gambling centers to protect public safety and quality of life.
