Four Receive Rabies Prevention After Infected Cow Dies in Golan Heights

The Israeli Ministry of Health has issued an urgent warning following the death of a cow infected with rabies at a farm in Ma'ale Gamla, located in the Golan Heights regional council. The incident occurred over the past weekend, and so far, four individuals who were exposed to the infected cow have begun preventive treatment against rabies.

Authorities are urging anyone who had contact with the cow, or whose animals may have come into contact with it or other stray animals in the area between July 17 and July 31, to promptly seek evaluation and possible preventive care at the Kinneret Health Office or the nearest health office to their residence. Parents are advised to check with their children about any contact with suspicious animals, and pet owners should consult their veterinary authorities to confirm their animals' vaccination status.

The Ministry of Health also requests that this information be shared with hikers and vacationers in the Golan Heights and surrounding communities. Anyone bitten or scratched by an animal is instructed to immediately wash the wound with running water and soap, disinfect it, and contact the health office to determine if preventive treatment is necessary.
