Israeli Authorities Uncover Drug Network Operating Within IDF Bases Following Weapon Theft

Israeli police and military investigators have exposed a drug trafficking network operating inside IDF bases in northern Israel after a theft of an M16 rifle from a military base. The investigation began on June 20 when a reservist from Tiberias, aged 30, was arrested for allegedly stealing the rifle from his unit. Authorities suspect the weapon was then transferred to criminal elements, prompting a joint inquiry by the Northern District Police and the Military Police Investigations Unit.

A 30-year-old resident of Kiryat Tivon was arrested for receiving the stolen rifle on the night of the theft and has been indicted for arms trafficking. The reservist faces charges of theft and arms trafficking. Further investigation revealed that the Kiryat Tivon resident and a 34-year-old Tiberias resident were running a cocaine and hard drugs trafficking ring, supplying a significant portion of the drugs to soldiers within northern military bases.

Additionally, the brother of the reservist, a lieutenant colonel serving at a northern military camp, is under investigation for obstruction of justice and conspiracy. Police disclosed that the officer had provided medical cannabis, which he was licensed to possess, on several occasions. Charges against him are expected to be filed later. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed indictments against the Kiryat Tivon resident, while the Military Prosecutor's Office charged the reservist. The Kiryat Shmona Police also indicted the Tiberias resident for drug trafficking offenses.
