Brooklyn Court Keeps Suspect in Custody After Violent Attack on Haredi Mother

The Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn has ordered that a 56-year-old man accused of violently attacking a Haredi mother in her Crown Heights home remain in full custody without bail until his trial concludes. The suspect appeared before the judge after a grand jury consolidated multiple cases against him into a single indictment, adding serious new charges. Initially, the judge set bail at approximately $1.5 million but later revoked the bail option entirely, citing the severity of the crime and the defendant's danger to the public.

The suspect, who denies the charges, has a troubling criminal history spanning decades, including a 1993 arrest on suspicion of murder in Crown Heights. Earlier this month, he disguised himself as a local electric company worker, wearing a mask and uniform, and rang the family’s smart doorbell. The father, away several blocks, monitored the situation via security camera and instructed the intruder to leave, but the man forcibly entered the home armed with a gun and attacked the family.

The father rushed home upon hearing his family’s cries through the security feed, confronted the armed intruder, disarmed him, and rendered him unconscious. The family escaped and called the police. The attacker regained consciousness, reclaimed his weapon and stolen property, and fled before officers arrived. Security cameras captured his bloody escape.

The family also contacted the local Shomrim community patrol, who tracked the suspect’s movements using a stolen phone. Volunteers spotted him attempting to change clothes in East New York and Brownsville, Brooklyn, and coordinated with nearby police officers to arrest him. A search found the weapon and stolen items on the suspect, along with injuries consistent with the violent struggle inside the home.
