Court Extends Detention of Suspect Seen Assaulting Female Detective at Ultra-Orthodox Protest
A court on Wednesday extended by one day the detention of a 26-year-old suspect who was filmed the previous day assaulting a female detective during an ultra-Orthodox protest on Route 4.
According to police, the incident happened while the detective and a police officer were trying to clear a disorderly protester who had blocked the road with his body. Another disorderly participant then approached from behind and attacked the detective, police said.
Police described the attack as “violent” and said the assailant pulled the officer forcefully, causing direct injury and wounding her during the struggle. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
