A day after clashes on Highway 4 near Bnei Brak, police on Thursday released footage showing a detective being attacked while officers were clearing protesters. The suspect, a 26-year-old Bnei Brak resident, was arrested at the scene, questioned, and later jailed after his interrogation. On Friday morning, Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extended his detention by one additional day.
According to police, the incident happened while officers were trying to remove protesters who had blocked traffic. A detective and a police officer attempted to move a protester lying on the road and stopping vehicles. Police said another protester approached from behind, grabbed the detective, and pulled her forcefully.
The officer was injured in the assault, required medical treatment, and was evacuated for care. The confrontation took place during a Haredi protest held Wednesday morning on Highway 4 near Bnei Brak.
Dozens of demonstrators blocked one of Israel’s main traffic arteries, causing severe disruption across the central region. During the road clearance, clashes erupted between protesters and police and included stun grenades, mounted police, and other crowd-control measures. Five suspects were arrested, and two police officers were injured and needed medical treatment. Police said they view any attack on officers very seriously and will continue acting firmly against lawbreakers who strike public servants.
