Man Posing as Utility Worker Attacks Haredi Couple in Brooklyn Home Invasion

A violent home invasion in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn shocked residents on Monday when a Jewish woman was attacked by an armed man impersonating a Con Edison utility worker. The incident occurred around 3 p.m., shortly after the victim's husband left the house. The assailant rang the doorbell claiming to be from Con Edison, a local electricity provider. When the woman opened the door, he forced his way inside, brandished a gun, and began choking her. She screamed for help, and because the family’s digital doorbell was still active, her husband, who was two blocks away, heard the commotion through a live feed on his phone and rushed back home.

During a struggle, the husband managed to wrest the gun from the attacker and struck him on the head with it. The woman escaped with their baby while the husband continued to fight the intruder before also fleeing. The suspect fled the scene with the gun, the woman’s phone, and wallet. Volunteers from the Shomrim organization tracked the suspect, who was later arrested by the New York Police Department. Police recovered a bag containing the gun. The husband identified the suspect, who has a criminal record with 10 prior arrests. The woman was hospitalized for neck injuries caused by strangulation. The home remained closed on Tuesday as investigators continued their inquiry.
