Man Poses as Construction Worker to Steal from Yeshiva Dormitory in Lakewood

Early Sunday morning, a man broke into the dormitory of the Brardani Yeshiva on Cross Street in Lakewood while students were still asleep. The intruder began stealing valuables, including cash, credit cards, driver's licenses, personal documents, and even an electric scooter belonging to one of the students. When a student woke up and confronted him, the suspect claimed he was a construction worker sent by the yeshiva administration to perform urgent repairs, a ruse that allowed him to remain undetected for nearly an hour as he moved through the dormitory collecting stolen items.

Local police were alerted after more students noticed the suspicious activity. Lakewood police officers arrived quickly with reinforced forces, conducted thorough searches inside and around the building, and apprehended the suspect still in possession of the stolen goods. He was immediately handcuffed and taken for further investigation at the local police station. Authorities are currently probing whether the suspect is linked to other recent break-ins and thefts in the Lakewood area. The suspect's identity has not been released.
