Man Under House Arrest Steals Equipment and Tefillin from Tel Aviv Film Set

A 35-year-old resident of Bat Yam, who was under effective house arrest, violated his restrictions by breaking into an active film set in central Tel Aviv. The suspect stole valuable production equipment, including laptops, hard drives, and memory cards containing critical footage, as well as personal items such as a pair of tefillin belonging to a crew member. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at around 30,000 shekels.

The break-in occurred at a residence on Shadal Street, currently used as a filming location for a television series. Police from the Lev Tel Aviv station launched a swift investigation after receiving the complaint on July 14, 2026. Utilizing technological tools and extensive searches in the Yarkon area, officers quickly located the suspect nearby carrying a large bag containing the stolen items, including the tefillin. He was immediately arrested and taken for questioning.

The suspect’s actions not only caused potential disruption to the filming schedule but also added a personal dimension of distress by stealing the sacred tefillin. It was revealed during the investigation that the man had committed the crime while under a court-ordered full house arrest for previous offenses, highlighting his disregard for the law. Due to the severity of the offenses, burglary, theft, and violation of legal orders, his detention has been extended pending trial, and a serious indictment has been filed against him.

Security footage from the film set shows the suspect moving confidently through the decorated apartment, gathering equipment and personal belongings before leaving with the stolen goods. The police have returned the recovered items to the production team, allowing filming to continue without significant delay.
