Israeli Police Arrest Man Caught Stealing Alcohol and Cigarettes in Tel Aviv Convenience Store
A 35-year-old resident of Beersheba was arrested late at night by Tel Aviv North police officers while attempting to steal alcohol and cigarettes worth thousands of shekels from a convenience store on Weinshal Street in northern Tel Aviv. The arrest followed a rapid police response to a report of a suspicious person inside the closed store. Officers caught the suspect in the act, surrounded by bags filled with expensive products he had taken from the shelves.
During the arrest, police found advanced burglary tools in the suspect's possession, including a cutting disc and a heavy hammer, which he allegedly used to break into the business. Among the stolen items were premium bottles of alcohol from brands like Chivas Regal and Gentleman Jack, large quantities of cigarette packs and tobacco, as well as cash.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had previously targeted the same store two days earlier. He had entered the store's warehouse without authorization during business hours and stolen valuable merchandise worth thousands of shekels before fleeing without leaving traces. The police gathered forensic evidence and security footage documenting both incidents.
The footage shows the suspect arriving on a bicycle late at night, searching for a way to break in, calmly moving through the store aisles while collecting goods, and finally being caught by a police officer inside the store's warehouse just before he could escape with the loot.
Following the investigation, the Tel Aviv District Prosecution filed serious charges against the suspect, including burglary, attempted theft, theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. The police also requested the court to keep him in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
