Hamas Senior Official Killed in Gaza Amid Israeli Airstrikes, Security Source Denies Targeting

On Sunday, Israeli forces from Brigade 188 conducted a series of airstrikes in southern Gaza, targeting multiple terror sites including an attack in Deir al-Balah. Palestinian reports claimed that Nafiz Zabih, known as "Abu Jalal" Assad, head of the military wing's inspection department in Hamas, was killed among more than ten casualties. However, an Israeli security official told Walla that Zabih was not a target of the strikes. The Israeli military has not officially confirmed the killing.

Following the strikes, Hamas has appealed to mediators to halt Israeli fire, which it says exceeds the ceasefire agreement. Egyptian sources informed the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that preparations are underway for a quadrilateral meeting involving Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey this week. The meeting aims to ensure implementation of the Gaza ceasefire understandings.

The source noted that intense Egyptian diplomatic efforts are supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, who is pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive soon to coordinate these efforts and hold Israel accountable to the ceasefire terms. The meeting is anticipated to monitor Israeli compliance and reinforce the initial steps agreed upon in the Gaza ceasefire framework.
