Hamas Spokesman Survives Israeli Assassination Attempt in Gaza but Seriously Wounded

Palestinian sources reported on Thursday evening that Hazem Qassem, the Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip, survived an Israeli assassination attempt. The attack was reportedly an airstrike targeting a vehicle in Gaza City. Saudi channel Al-Hadath reported that while Qassem survived, his aide Muhammad Al-Fayoumi was killed in the strike. Palestinian sources said Qassem was evacuated to Shifa Hospital in Gaza in critical condition. Al-Fayoumi, who died in the attack, was described as one of Qassem's close aides and escorts.

The Israeli military (IDF) has not yet commented on the reports. Earlier on the same day, the IDF and Shin Bet announced the killing of terrorist Hamed Abu Salam, who infiltrated Israel on October 7, participated in kidnapping civilians, and held them captive. Abu Salam was formerly a commander of the western battalion in Khan Yunis and recently promoted terror operations, including efforts to restore weapons intended for attacks against Israeli forces.

This incident highlights ongoing Israeli targeted operations against Hamas leadership and operatives in Gaza amid heightened tensions following recent cross-border attacks and kidnappings.
