Israeli Air Force Targets Hamas Spokesman Hazem Qassem in Gaza Assassination Attempt
Arab media reported on Thursday that the Israeli Air Force attempted to assassinate Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem in the Gaza Strip. According to the reports, Qassem was injured when the vehicle he was in was attacked. Neither Hamas nor the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have officially confirmed the incident, and Qassem's condition remains unclear.
Earlier, the IDF and Shin Bet announced they had killed Hamas operative Wahid Abu Salam in a targeted strike in southern Gaza. Abu Salam was a former commander of the western battalion in Khan Yunis and participated in the October 7 attacks, including the abduction of Israeli civilians who were held captive in southern Gaza. He was involved in planning further terrorist activities and posed an immediate threat to Israeli forces.
Last week, the IDF and Shin Bet also reported killing Mohammed Naim Jandia, a senior Hamas military security official who took part in the abduction of Captain Daniel Peretz and the detention of Israeli hostages in a tunnel. Jandia led the commando unit that raided Kibbutz Nahal Oz during the October 7 massacre and was responsible for holding the hostages Yotam Haim, Samer Al-Talalka, and Alon Shmoriz.
These targeted killings are part of Israel's ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas's military leadership following the October 7 attacks.
