Hamas Spokesman Hazem Qassem Survives Israeli Airstrike in Gaza City

Dramatic reports from the Gaza Strip detail an Israeli targeted assassination attempt on Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem in western Gaza City. According to local sources, an Israeli Air Force drone fired a precise missile at the vehicle carrying Qassem and his security detail. The attack caused the car to catch fire and be nearly destroyed. Qassem was severely wounded and evacuated under heavy guard to Shifa Hospital for urgent medical treatment. His personal bodyguard, Mohammad Al-Fayoumi, was killed instantly in the blast.

Footage from the scene shows the white vehicle completely wrecked in the middle of the road, engulfed in flames and thick black smoke. Within minutes, a large and angry crowd of hundreds of Gazans gathered around the burning car, shouting and attempting to approach despite the smoke.

Hazem Qassem is a prominent figure in Hamas’s propaganda and psychological warfare efforts, frequently appearing in Arab and international media as the organization’s political face. This assassination attempt, carried out in broad daylight in Gaza City, represents a significant operational and psychological blow to Hamas’s political and media leadership, beyond the ongoing targeting of its military commanders.

In recent weeks, the Israel Defense Forces have conducted a series of targeted killings against senior Hamas figures. Notably, the commander of the Nukhba unit involved in the October 7 massacre was killed near Kibbutz Nirim, along with other senior Hamas intelligence and military leaders in separate operations.
