Ben Gurion Airport Faces Peak August Crowds With Up to 100,000 Daily Passengers

Ben Gurion Airport experienced significant congestion both in the air and on the ground recently, with delays in departures and arrivals as well as long wait times at security checks, check-in counters, and baggage claim. According to the Israel Airports Authority (IAA), the busiest period is still ahead, with approximately 2.6 million passengers expected to pass through the airport in August. During this month, 47 airlines will operate flights, including Israeli carriers.

The most popular destinations for August travelers are Greece, Cyprus, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Germany. On weekdays (excluding weekends), daily passenger traffic is projected to range between 90,000 and 95,000 arrivals and departures. Five dates in August, 6th, 13th, 17th, 20th, and 27th, are expected to be especially busy, mostly Thursdays, with passenger numbers reaching around 100,000 each day.

In response to the anticipated crowds, the IAA advises passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight, complete check-in online when possible, verify their terminal and updated departure time in advance, and use self-service kiosks for baggage tagging and drop-off. Passengers who have checked in online and are traveling with carry-on luggage only are encouraged to use the W terminal area for expedited processing. The IAA also asks travelers to remain patient during peak times, noting that summer operations involve exceptionally high volumes that may cause occasional bottlenecks and longer wait times.
