Israeli Police Foil Criminal Attack in North, Arrest Five Suspects and Seize Firearms

Early Sunday morning, Israeli police and Border Police forces raided a building in the northern village of Bir al-Maksur, arresting five suspects suspected of planning a criminal attack amid a local dispute. During the operation, officers confiscated a loaded handgun, an M16 rifle, ammunition, additional magazines, and gloves. The suspects were taken for questioning at the police station, with decisions pending on whether to extend their detention.

Since the beginning of the year, over 530 lethal weapons have been seized in the northern district as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime. Police emphasized their continued commitment to locating illegal firearms, arresting suspects, and ensuring legal accountability for those involved. This recent incident follows several significant weapons seizures in the region, including a weapons trafficking network uncovered in Kafr Qana with indictments against 11 defendants, and an unusual arms cache found in Rosh Pina containing shoulder missiles, explosives, a Negev machine gun, and grenades.

The police spokesperson reiterated the force's determination to address violence and illegal arms possession to protect public safety and uphold the law.
