Israeli Police Seize Stolen Military Ammunition After Shooting Near Karmit

Israeli police and Border Police forces in the Southern District apprehended five suspects and confiscated a large cache of stolen Israeli military ammunition during an operation on Sunday night. The operation followed a shooting incident on Saturday near the village of Karmit, reportedly originating from the nearby area of Lakia. Authorities recovered two M-16 rifles, dozens of magazines, 19 grenade launcher grenades, and hundreds of rounds of stolen military ammunition.

The five suspects were taken for further questioning at the Ayarot police station. Among them, three individuals in their 30s were suspected of involvement in the shooting and a related altercation in Lakia, which alarmed residents of Karmit. Police units, including the counter-terrorism unit and Southern Border Police, responded promptly to reports of the incident.

During the operation, officers spotted a suspect firing shots who then fled on foot toward a nearby wadi close to residential homes. A foot pursuit ensued using lighting equipment, culminating in the suspect being found hiding in bushes. Two additional suspects were also arrested during the raid and all three were transferred for interrogation. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the source of the stolen military weapons and ammunition.
