Edwards recently completed his contract with Hapoel HaEmek and had previously been considered by Hapoel Tel Aviv. He has been a top scorer in the Israeli league for two consecutive seasons, averaging 19.5 points with Maccabi Netanya and 18.9 points with Hapoel HaEmek.

Both French teams are entering the transfer market late this season due to various reasons and are seeking players with profiles similar to Edwards. Villeurbanne, in particular, is reportedly impressed by Edwards despite his playing history not matching that of other recent signings like Armoni Brooks and Nick Weiler-Babb. During his one and a half seasons in the Israeli Winner League, Edwards consistently scored in double digits, with only two games below 10 points, contrasting with his four sub-10-point games in just eight matches for Dijon.
