US Official Warns Israel on Hamas Disarmament Deal, Trump Will Be Disappointed If Not Honored

A senior US official told N12 that if Israel fails to comply with the recently announced Hamas disarmament agreement, President Donald Trump will be very disappointed. The official emphasized that the US maintained close coordination with Israel throughout the sensitive negotiations, which culminated in a historic deal aimed at transforming Gaza from a military base into a civilian-governed area. The agreement was announced by Trump and involves a gradual Israeli withdrawal and the dismantling of Hamas’s weapons over 200 to 350 days.

The official revealed that Iran attempted to dissuade Hamas from signing the agreement, but Hamas ignored Tehran’s advice, recognizing they needed to act in their own interest. The US official also noted Israel’s initial displeasure with the inclusion of Turkey and Qatar in the Peace Council’s steering committee, though alongside Egypt, these countries significantly aided the process.

Two senior Peace Council officials elaborated that the Israeli withdrawal will be phased according to a timeline still under discussion. The disarmament will begin with Hamas’s "blue police" handing over weapons to a new Palestinian technocratic government police force, followed by the secure storage of heavy weapons and destruction of tunnels and arms factories. Light arms will be collected per Palestinian law, and all armed factions, including militias established by Israel, must relinquish their weapons. The process will be closely monitored to ensure compliance by both sides, preventing any armed groups from operating covertly.

The Peace Council officials highlighted that the technocratic government is seen as a viable alternative to Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, tasked with serving Gaza’s civilian population. An international stabilization force will support police training and oversee the disarmament process, operating between Gaza and Israeli forces. Twelve countries worldwide will be involved in implementing various aspects of the plan. The officials stressed the importance of internal reconciliation among Gaza’s factions to prevent retaliatory violence during the transition.
